'Namwayut / We Are All One
Beautiful opening to the week of reconciliation in Vancouver this morning with a unique event: The All Nations Canoe Gathering at False Creek. Dozens of traditional cedar dugout canoes, dragon boats and traditional kayaks paddled into False Creek from Vanier Park in Kitsilano to Science World and were welcomed in a traditional ceremony to the Coast Salish lands.
"Reconciliation Canada recognizes and honors the cultural and spiritual aspectsof the dugout canoes and the healing they bring to the people. This canoe day was initiated for First Nations to paddle their canoe into False Creek where a traditional protocol of welcome will occur by local First Nation tribes known as the host. Indian residential school survivors will partake in the water that and paddle up for protocol for recognition and honor."
Reconciliation Canada vision's promote reconciliation by engaging Canadians in dialogue that revitalizes the relationship between Aboriginal peoples and all Canadians in order to build resilience.
Values: 'Nanwayut - We are All One - Dignity - Understanding - Hope - Openness
