There is a popular saying in Oaxaca 'Para todo mal Mezcal, y para todo bien, también' "Mezcal for the good times, and for the bad times, ..Mezcal too".
Oaxaca is one of the seven states producing Mezcal in Mexico, and is being featured during the different events of MexicoFest..
A Mezcal Tasting was offered yesterday in Vancouver at Stanley Park . The event was held at the beautiful Stanley Park Pavilion, and was sponsored by ProMexico and Lorenz Agave Spirits.
Mezcal , a Mexican Alcoholic Spirit , is largely still unknown in Canada. This event gave people the opportunity to learn more about it and is opening the door to explore the market for Mezcal from Oaxaca, Mexico in Vancouver.
At this event, guests were able to taste differents types of Mezcal from "Mezcaleros" (producers) visting from Oaxaca, Mexico. Eric Lorenz of Lorenz Agave Spirits ,who is an expert in Mezcal, explained during a presentation what Mezcal is, the distillation process, history and origin . He also guided the audience in a professional Mezcal tasting of seven different Mezcal brands.
After the presentation, guests were able to taste different brands of Mezcal and learn from the representatives and producers of Mezcal visiting from Oaxaca about their Mezcal.
There were also an exhibition of beautiful "alebrijes" hand carved sculptures by artist Zenny Fuentes-Reyna ,handicrafts, contemporary plastic arts by Vixi Mexico, and also coffee, chocolate and crickets from Oaxaca.
